Clapping is the famous trigger, but it is not always the right one. Your hands are full of groceries. You are wearing gloves. Your claps are quiet, or your household claps all the time. Device Finder supports three alternative triggers so the alarm fires on the sound that suits you.
Trigger 1: Whistle
A whistle is a sharp, high-frequency tone that stands out clearly from speech and room noise — for many people it carries better than a clap. If you can whistle on demand, it makes an excellent trigger: hands-free and distinctive.
Trigger 2: A spoken phrase
Say "Where's my phone?" and the phone answers with the alarm. The appeal is that it is what you were going to say anyway. It also works with zero dexterity: hands full, gloves on, or from the doorway of a dark room. Reviews of other finder apps regularly ask for exactly this feature; Device Finder has it built in.
Trigger 3: A custom recorded sound
Record your own trigger — a snap, a specific word, any sound you can reproduce. Custom triggers shine in noisy households: if claps and whistles happen around your phone all day, a sound only you make keeps false alarms near zero.
Choosing and combining triggers
- Open the Clap Finder section in Device Finder.
- Select which sounds the phone should respond to — clap, whistle, snap, phrase, or all of them.
- Pick your alarm sound, tap Start, and lock the phone.
Detection runs only while the screen is off, so triggers never interrupt calls or music. Whichever sound you choose, the response is the same: a loud alarm that plays through silent mode, leading you straight to the couch cushion your phone chose today.
